Third instalment of ‘From Bedrooms to Billions’ Announced!

The PlayStation Revolution!

Anthony & Nicola Caulfield, the writers and directors of the critically acclaimed documentaries From Bedrooms to Billions and From Bedrooms to Billions: The Amiga Years have announced From Bedrooms to Billions: The PlayStation Revolution, focusing on the rapid success of the Sony format and due for release in May 2017.

The documentary will offer an in-depth overview of the creation, release and phenomenal success of the PlayStation console using extensive interviews with those involved at its genesis and the many developers that contributed to its meteoric rise. From the initial top-secret meetings with the world’s most important publishers, the explosion of talent producing classic titles for the system, and Sony’s positioning of the PlayStation as a lifestyle component: From Bedrooms to Billions: The PlayStation Revolution is the definitive story of when gaming went mainstream.

As with its predecessors, a Kickstarter crowdfunding campaign ( has been launched to generate the production funds needed to release the film, with Shuhei Yoshida, President of Sony’s worldwide studios for SCEI amongst the first to lend support.

Producer & Co-Director Anthony Caulfield said; “We used Kickstarter to fund our previous films and we are turning to it now in the hope of being funded to produce a standout and memorable film that not only celebrates the Sony PlayStation and what followed, but delves deeply into why and how it was created, how it was distributed against a fiercely competitive early 1990’s backdrop and why it was a revolution for the video games industry. During the production of our two previous films so many developers, publishers, musicians and journalists we interviewed said that the release of the PlayStation was a ‘game changer’ for the games industry on many different levels. Therefore it is our intention to film a whole new set of interviews to add to our already extensive list and create a standalone, immersive and exhaustive film that really explores why the release of the PlayStation and the era that soon followed was a key period in the evolution of video games.”

Fellow Producer & Co-Director Nicola Caulfield said “Though this is an independent production, Sony Computer Entertainment have been incredibly supportive and helpful to us over the years; not to mention highly complimentary of the From Bedrooms film series and what we are trying to achieve.”

“They have kindly offered access to many of the key characters in this story, thus ensuring we can match our vision perfectly. Those that know our work will understand we are both passionate and intent on documenting the games industry as thoroughly, while being as entertaining as we can. We intend to use this opportunity to make The PlayStation Revolution a fitting tribute to a system that powered gaming into so many living rooms.”
