Jump, punch and scheme your way to victory with Jamit Games’ hysterical new party game, due to be published by Curve Digital in December – but playable today at EGX
Chuck away Monopoly, tell Charades to bugger off – this Christmas, families all around the world will be settling down to a game of Hunger Pains, Stomp and TNT Tag thanks to Jamit Games’ frantic new party game Jump Stars.
Coming to PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC this December, Jump Stars shakes up the party game genre with a twist so clever it’s a crime no-one has thought of it before.
A multiplayer game through and through, Jump Stars introduces simultaneous competitive and cooperative objectives, tasking players with meeting certain goals for the good of the party – whilst ensuring that their individual achievements will see them emerge on top.
The game comes complete with a selection of unique mini games, each of which wraps a simple premise around a devious twist to create levels which’ll have players howling with delight.
For example: In Cool Aid, competitors must stand on snow spots to keep their cool in a stage that’s set ablaze – it turns out that if your character starts to look like a s’more that’s fallen into the fire, you’re in trouble! Tailspin sees teammates jumping over a giant rotating arm in near perfect unison, but falling out of this rhythmic jumping harmony can prove hazardous to a player’s health – some would say fatal. Hunger Pains plays out like a platforming pie eating contest, as contestants dash across the level consuming pies to stop themselves from shrinking into nothingness. And that’s not to mention The Gauntlet – a sprawling level filled with opportunity to win big… or lose bigger.
Proceedings are overseen by the fiendishly ominous Host, who ensures viewers are kept up to date with proceedings – and depending on his rather “split” mood, he may reward your successes with praise, or throw a wildcard into the mix to boost his ratings!
“We’re huge fans of the party game genre, and we wanted to create something with a twist to the party platformer experience,” says Jordan Morris, creative director, Jamit Games. “For us, the dynamism of co-operative and competitive play is what makes Jump Stars stand out from the crowd. That constant uncertainty of when your teammates might turn against you, and when should you turn against your teammates. That’s what we love, and that’s what still makes us laugh in the studio when we play it, and we hope it’s that uncertainty that families will love about it this Christmas.”
“Jump Stars was birthed from a game jam,” adds Isaac Howie-Brewerton, studio director of Jamit Games. “It was a small project that we did together for a bit of fun. It was something for us to enjoy together. And, over time, it’s evolved into this fantastic, ridiculous, TV-show-inspired experience that we have now. For us, the best part is that we still love playing it. Because of the way that the mini games are designed, something new and completely unexpected can always happen even to us. I think the next thing is that now we can’t wait to see what people make of it this Christmas.”
